One of the best skills to enhance aquatic comfort and proficiency in scuba leaders is the skin diving ditch and recovery. This circuit of skin diving skills tests the individual on mental and physical composure, as well as technique. But, the skin diving ditch and recovery is also one of the hardest skills to learn and master in all of professional scuba training. In fact, it is the number one in-water skill that prevents dive professional candidates from passing their courses.
My name is Tec Clark and 30 years ago I came out of my NAUI ITC in provisional status because I could not properly do this skill. I had to then suffer through the embarrassment, the time, and the expense of making up the skill to pass my instructor course. In doing so I researched freediving techniques and breath holding physiology to come up with skill efficiencies, which made the skill easier. Not only did I pass my instructor course, I then went on to become the captain of the United States Freediving Team. I have taught hundreds of dive professionals these techniques with tremendous results, and now I share it here with you in this Mastering Skin Diving Ditch and Recovery online course.
This Mastering Skin Diving Ditch and Recovery online course is for two groups of divers:
- Emerging Dive Professionals: As a divemaster, assistant instructor, skin diving leader or instructor candidate, the skin diving ditch and recovery can be a very challenging skill that takes quite a bit of practice to get right. Sometimes candidates don’t pass their training because of this one skill. This course will help you with the strategies to perform this skill successfully and pass your training.
- Seasoned Dive Professionals: If you are a seasoned instructor this course will assist you with multiple techniques and strategies that you can teach to your students in both demonstrations and evaluations. This course will help you demonstrate to a level that you are a master of your domain. That is, you are calm and collected, totally at ease and proficient underwater, and you make the skill look easy.
While following the NAUI standards, multiple techniques and variations of the skin diving ditch and recovery will be demonstrated. This course is broken down into the following modules:
- Set Up and Preparation
- Safety
- Elements of the Skill
